Privacy Policy

In short: your diary belongs to you and is stored on your phone. We don’t create accounts, sell data or show ads.

Version of October 14, 2026

01Who we are

The CaloryLab app and website are developed and maintained by CaloryLab, Ukraine. For privacy questions, write to calorylab.support@gmail.com.

02What data the app processes

To calculate your personal target and keep your diary, the app uses data you enter yourself:

  • name (or nickname), sex, age, height, weight, activity level and goal;
  • diary entries: foods, portion weights, meals, water;
  • weight history and custom foods created from labels;
  • settings: interface language, currency, reminders, selected plan, favorite foods;
  • chat history with the AI coach.

03Where data is stored

All of the data listed above is stored locally on your device (Android — SharedPreferences, iOS — NSUserDefaults) and is not transmitted to our servers (except for the requests described in “Network requests and AI”). The app does not require registration, a password or a phone number. The food catalog is built into the app and works without internet.

04Network requests and AI

Internet access is needed only for certain features, and only when you use them:

  • Barcode lookup for products not in the built-in catalog: only the barcode number is sent to the open Open Food Facts database.
  • AI features (Premium): a photo of a dish or label, your message to the AI coach and a brief summary of your profile and that day’s diary are sent for processing to the Google Gemini API. We do not add an account name, contacts or device identifiers to the request. Google processes the data under its own terms.
  • Product photos in the catalog are loaded from Open Food Facts and Wikimedia Commons.

The app uses the camera only on the scanner and photo scanner screens, and only with your permission; photos are not saved to your gallery.

05Apple Health and Health Connect

If you turn on watch sync (Profile › Watch & health), CaloryLab, with your permission, only reads from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android):

  • active and total calories burned — to add them to your daily target;
  • steps — to show activity on the home screen;
  • weight — to update the weight chart.

This data stays on your phone, is not sent to servers, is not used for advertising and is not sold. CaloryLab does not write anything to Apple Health or Health Connect. You can revoke access at any time in Health / Health Connect settings or turn off sync in the app.

06Voice input and streak duels

Voice input: speech is recognized by your phone’s built-in service (Apple Speech on iOS, the Android speech recognition service) — on the device where supported. We do not record or store audio. The recognized text may be sent to the Google Gemini API, as described above, only if the phrase could not be understood on the device.

Streak duel (optional): when you start a duel, only your profile name, avatar color and frame, current and best streak, and the numbers of days with entries over the last 60 days are sent to our server. Food, weight and calories are never sent. Only your opponent in a shared duel sees this data; you can delete it in the Streak duel section.

07Advertising, analytics and third parties

The app has no ads, no advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics SDKs. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. The website does not use tracking cookies; your website language choice is stored only in your browser.

08Subscription payments

Paid plans are purchased through the App Store or Google Play. Payment data is processed by Apple or Google under their policies; we receive only the purchase status information needed to unlock your plan’s features.

09Your rights and data deletion

You can change your profile data at any time or delete everything with one tap: Profile › Delete all data. Uninstalling the app also deletes all data from the device. Since data is not stored on our servers, it cannot be recovered after deletion.

10Children

CaloryLab is intended for users aged 14 and older. The app is not a medical device; if you have a medical condition or are pregnant, consult a doctor before changing your diet.

11Food data sources

  • Nutrition data: USDA FoodData Central — public domain (CC0 1.0); Ukrainian names prepared by the CaloryLab team.
  • Barcoded products: Open Food Facts — Open Database License (ODbL).
  • Ukrainian brands: data from manufacturer labels.
  • Product photos: Wikimedia Commons and Open Food Facts — under the licenses of their respective authors.

12Changes to this policy

If we change how data is processed (for example, by adding sync between devices), we will update this page and notify you in the app before the changes take effect.
